PrintWe wish we could be optimistic about standards. Unfortunately connectivity standards in the home are diverging, not converging. In this case the abundance of standards is slowing down the market, not accelerating it. The noise generated of Thread, ZigBee, Z-Wave, ULE, BLE-mesh, is creating confusion among Arrayent customers. Holding many companies off. The new generation of “thing talking to thing” (e.g. Smart TV recognizing Wi-Fi speakers in the back of a living room) efforts – Open Connectivity Foundation (the unification of OIC, Allseen and UPnP), Apple HomeKit, Nest Weave, Google Weave are confusing suppliers about a problem we don’t even have today i.e. getting different connected products talking to one another. They simple fact is that the new standards are not yet fully baked. Until they are, companies can take comfort in knowing that Wi-Fi, BLE and the cloud are not going away. These are viable and proven ingredients that can enable you to grab connected product leadership now. No worries because Cloud-to-Cloud integration enables connected products to work with other connected products. We already see connected product interaction made possible with “Works with Nest”, IFTT, and Amazon Alexa voice services making it happen.
